Global Climate Campaign – Call to Action in Jordan

EVERY DROP COUNTS…
Water is a PRECIOUS resource in Jordan since it is a small country with limited natural resources. Recently, it has been rated among the 4 most water-poor countries in the world ( a massive blow when compared to position 10 a few years ago).

Growing populations and ongoing drought are squeezing our water resources dry, causing natural habitat degradation and impacting our everyday use of water. We have no choice but to pay more attention to how we are using water, and how we may be wasting it. We must bridge the gap between our understanding of how important water is to our survival and what we can do to ensure that we have an adequate supply of clean water for years to come.

LET”S GET THE COMMUNITY INVOLVED! Every drop counts and every person can make a difference.
Let’s plant the seeds of selflessness, courage and community spirit. The Earth is One country and Mankind is its citizen!

The Campaign against Climate Change (UK) and the Call to Action (Jordan) are proud to have presented our first event in Jordan (2007) “Global Climate Campaign -Call to Action Fest2007, Jo” and hope to continue this annual tradition of spreading public awareness concerning environmental issues we are all facing.

This year, coinciding with the UN Climate Talks (MOP 3, COP 13), the Campaign Against Climate Change (UK) intends to synchronise an INTERNATIONAL ACTION DAY AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE on December 6th to call on world leaders to push for the urgent and radical action. Up till now more than 70 countries have signed up!

Royal Jordanian Airline joke

A young lawyer on a business trip, in the lounge at Heathrow Terminal 3 waiting his next flight, he noticed a really beautiful lady reading a book next to him.

He thought to himself: ‘Wow, she’s so gorgeous she must be a flight attendant. But which airline does she work for?’
Hoping to pick her up, he leaned towards her and said the Delta Airline slogan: ‘Love to fly and it shows?’
She gave him a confused look and he immediately thought to himself:
‘Damn, she doesn’t work for Delta Airlines.’

A moment later, another slogan popped into his head.
He leaned towards her again, ‘Something special in the air?’
She gave him the same confused look. He then removed Singapore Airlines off the list.
Next he tried the Thai Airways slogan: ‘Smooth as Silk.’

This time the woman turned to him ‘What the hell do you want?’

The lawyer smiled, then lay back in his chair, and said ‘Ahhhhh, ROYAL JORDANIAN!!

260 Gas station vs 6 Million citizen – Fuel Crisis in Jordan

Two hundred and sixty gas station owner were able to impose their wishes on the government while the last found itself compelled to switch back to the monthly pricing system although they were about to install the weekly pricing system in favor of the six million citizen or we prefer to think like that.

For better coverage maybe you want to check Alghad or Jordantimes but my question is, do we have a government that is strong enough to protect the 6 million citizen from the greedy-businessmen starting from gas station business ending with shawerma?

Pinch Me …a message from Michael Moore

Friends,

Who among us is not at a loss for words? Tears pour out. Tears of joy. Tears of relief. A stunning, whopping landslide of hope in a time of deep despair.

In a nation that was founded on genocide and then built on the backs of slaves, it was an unexpected moment, shocking in its simplicity: Barack Obama, a good man, a black man, said he would bring change to Washington, and the majority of the country liked that idea. The racists were present throughout the campaign and in the voting booth. But they are no longer the majority, and we will see their flame of hate fizzle out in our lifetime.

There was another important “first” last night. Never before in our history has an avowed anti-war candidate been elected president during a time of war. I hope President-elect Obama remembers that as he considers expanding the war in Afghanistan. The faith we now have will be lost if he forgets the main issue on which he beat his fellow Dems in the primaries and then a great war hero in the general election: The people of America are tired of war. Sick and tired. And their voice was loud and clear yesterday.

It’s been an inexcusable 44 years since a Democrat running for president has received even just 51% of the vote. That’s because most Americans haven’t really liked the Democrats. They see them as rarely having the guts to get the job done or stand up for the working people they say they support. Well, here’s their chance. It has been handed to them, via the voting public, in the form of a man who is not a party hack, not a set-for-life Beltway bureaucrat. Will he now become one of them, or will he force them to be more like him? We pray for the latter.

But today we celebrate this triumph of decency over personal attack, of peace over war, of intelligence over a belief that Adam and Eve rode around on dinosaurs just 6,000 years ago. What will it be like to have a smart president? Science, banished for eight years, will return. Imagine supporting our country’s greatest minds as they seek to cure illness, discover new forms of energy, and work to save the planet. I know, pinch me.

We may, just possibly, also see a time of refreshing openness, enlightenment and creativity. The arts and the artists will not be seen as the enemy. Perhaps art will be explored in order to discover the greater truths. When FDR was ushered in with his landslide in 1932, what followed was Frank Capra and Preston Sturgis, Woody Guthrie and John Steinbeck, Dorothea Lange and Orson Welles. All week long I have been inundated with media asking me, “gee, Mike, what will you do now that Bush is gone?” Are they kidding? What will it be like to work and create in an environment that nurtures and supports film and the arts, science and invention, and the freedom to be whatever you want to be? Watch a thousand flowers bloom! We’ve entered a new era, and if I could sum up our collective first thought of this new era, it is this: Anything Is Possible.

An African American has been elected President of the United States! Anything is possible! We can wrestle our economy out of the hands of the reckless rich and return it to the people. Anything is possible! Every citizen can be guaranteed health care. Anything is possible! We can stop melting the polar ice caps. Anything is possible! Those who have committed war crimes will be brought to justice. Anything is possible.

We really don’t have much time. There is big work to do. But this is the week for all of us to revel in this great moment. Be humble about it. Do not treat the Republicans in your life the way they have treated you the past eight years. Show them the grace and goodness that Barack Obama exuded throughout the campaign. Though called every name in the book, he refused to lower himself to the gutter and sling the mud back. Can we follow his example? I know, it will be hard.

I want to thank everyone who gave of their time and resources to make this victory happen. It’s been a long road, and huge damage has been done to this great country, not to mention to many of you who have lost your jobs, gone bankrupt from medical bills, or suffered through a loved one being shipped off to Iraq. We will now work to repair this damage, and it won’t be easy.

But what a way to start! Barack Hussein Obama, the 44th President of the United States. Wow. Seriously, wow.

Germany Foreign Ministry migrats to OpenSource Desktops

While we are trying to get more contracts and pay more money to planet more proprietary solutions in our IT infrastructure and to serve our gratification in sending more PR about our success in signing new contracts to pay more money, Germany Foreign Ministry decided to do something else, although money might not be an issue to them as it is to us.

Open Source desktops are far cheaper to maintain than proprietary desktop configurations, says a diplomat at the German Embassy in Madrid and the former head of IT at the Foreign Ministry.

The Promised Land – Michael Moore

Although if I were American I’d vote for Mccain but I loved the way Moore is putting it.

The Promised Land …a message from Michael Moore

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Friends,

Tomorrow.

All of us.

You, me, and everyone we know.

Eight years is enough. Eight weeks was enough.

We have a chance to redeem this country, to prove we’re better than this, that which Bush has made of us.

McCain is right about one thing: Barack Obama is the most liberal senator in the United States Senate. More liberal than Ted Kennedy. When was the last time you had a chance to send the MOST liberal senator to the White House? Trust me, it won’t happen again in our lifetime.

Every vote is critical — even in hard red states like Texas and Alabama; and true blue ones like New York, California and Michigan. Tomorrow, we need to create a massive popular vote that will give Obama a stunning mandate to return this country to we, the people. Let’s write one for the history books and rocket Obama into the White House.

Expect trouble tomorrow. Stand your ground. Don’t let some clerk turn you away. Make noise. Call the media if they won’t let you vote. Let the Obama camp know. Check out his Voter Protection Center. Know where your polling place is. Be careful inside the voting booth. The ballot still reads like a Sudoku puzzle. Be prepared for long lines. That’s ok, you know how to bring the party with you! Make new friends. Plot your local revolution. The 28-year rule of Republicans (and Democrats who act like Republicans) is over. The Reagan Era dies tomorrow night. My God, I truly thought it would never end.

There are over a million of you on my list. Each of you know 5 or 10 people who may not vote. Offer to drive them to the polls. If they live across the country, call them and tell them how much it means to you that they go vote for Obama. Take your co-workers to lunch — and to vote. Be creative. Come up with ways to convince the undecided to get their decided on and go vote. Make it fun. Lead the horse to water.

60 seats in the Senate!

30-seat increase in the House!

President Obama!

It’s in your hands. The Promised Land.
