#Infrastructure

Infrastructure is the stuff that works until it does not, and these posts are about paying attention to it before that moment. I write about the systems underneath the systems, the data centers, the undersea cables, the DNS hierarchy, the cloud regions and their political geography, and the design choices that make some failures isolated and others catastrophic. The pieces here treat infrastructure as a site of power, not just a topic for site reliability engineers. Where a cable lands, who owns the registry, which provider a government picks, these are decisions with consequences that outlast the contracts. The most interesting infrastructure writing makes the invisible legible, and that is the goal.
